Chapter Twenty
Luc
Luc stood there; his eyes wide but otherwise completely expressionless and his arms crossed tightly over his chest. A baby⦠his mind just couldnât wrap around it. It had been one thing when it was just a vision in their future, but his baby was pregnant with a baby.
A baby that he knew he would love and protect until his dying day regardless of their DNA. He needed to get Ingr root and that bubbly cider Deandre had mentioned. He needed to get Audra those pregnancy vitamins without causing suspicion. He needed to increase her security and prepare for how she was going to be protected, especially when she got farther along. There was a list of things he needed to do starting to form in his head like rapid fire.
Luc looked to where Seb sat, perched on the edge of the bed holding Audraâs hand in his while staring at her with a mix of surprise and shock. And Audraâ¦well, Audra looked like she didnât know what to do. Her expressions continued to go from blank to shocked to happy to fearful and her expressions just continued to cycle through the different emotions.
He couldnât imagine what she was thinking. What she was going through. One moment, they were worried about getting Audra and Seb married and a peace treaty between the nations secure, all while dealing with her still-new magical ability and in-laws who very obviously hated everyone.
But now, a baby was thrown into the mix. An innocent life that didnât ask to be born but was made out of love. Their love for her and her love for them.
âDoes it matter whose it is?â She asked softly, suddenly.
Out of all the questions Luc thought that she would have, asking if they cared which one of them fathered their child was not what Luc thought she would worry about or ask them.
âNot to me.â Seb said quickly.
âLuc?â Audra asked, standing from the bed and tossing the covers back. Her dress fit her like a glove and showed off her tight waist as she walked over to Luc. He felt a smugness that soon that tight, sexy waist was going to be pushed wider with their child. And that made some primal part of him very, very happy. She set her hand over his crossed arms. âDoes it matter to you whose it is?â
His eyes flickered down to hers quickly, his stare of her body and his mental task list broken.
âDoes it matter to you?â Luc asked, his voice was hoarse like he hadnât spoken in a long time, but really it was just because he was so full of emotions. The earth beneath their feet started to shake slightly with Audraâs silence, her eyes lining with silver tears.
âOf course, it doesnât fucking matter to me, baby. I told you this before. Weâre having a baby!â Luc said, his face broke into a wide grin.
âOh, thank god.â Audra said, the tears filling her eyes, threatening to overflow.
âWeâre having a baby.
